Asturias Beaches
The only problem with the beaches of Asturias is how to select which ones to spend time on. With over 200 to choose from this can be a real challenge. I present here just four or five, all in the central eastern sector of Asturias because they are the ones I know. No other reason, as I am sure the beaches on the west coast and further east are just as stunning. I hope to find out one day. In the meantime this selection are all defined by their beauty, the setting, the cleanliness of the sand and the crystal clear Atlantic, regularly producing absolutely fantastic waves for surfing, boogie-boarding or just jumping up and down in.(My favoured sporting avtivity!)

Llanes
Llanes is probably one of the most popular destinations for summer holidays in Asturias, but don't let this put you off. It is a charming, buzzy and atmospheric town with a delightful sheltered town beach, a fantastic selection of places to eat, many unsurprisingly, offering a mouthwatering array of seafood and fish. Llanes is about 60 to 90 minutes drive from Gijon and Oviedo and can also be reached using the FEVE train service, of which more elsewhere. However, although a highly enjoyable scenic experience this is not to be recommended if you are in a hurry as it is at least two hours and about 25 stops!

No cheap jokes or schoolboy humour please. There is a wonderful cliff top scenic walk called the Paseo de San Pedro which runs above the Sablon Beach and arrives finally in the charming though, to English speakers, unfortunately named town of Poo!
